The activities of the Resource Management Agency (RMA) focus on research of the anthropogenic material, substance and energy metabolism of products, enterprises and regions as well as on developing and promoting options for their management in line with the criteria of “environmental sustainability” and “minimisation of resource depletion”.

Focal points of research:

Material-, Substance- and Energy-Balances
Solid Wastes and Wastewater Management
Sustainable Development of Cities and Regions
Energy Efficiency
Sustainable Construction
Sustainable Nutrition

The Resource Management Agency (RMA) is an organisation, whose work concentrates on developing and broadening the scope of scientific methods that contribute to sound resource management, to collecting information on anthropogenic metabolism and on promoting measures to be implemented by economy and public administration.

The focal points of research and development activities of the RMA comprise the sustainable use of the resources, corporate and regional waste, environmental, energy and resource management as well as issues of sustainable development.

Material-, Substance- and Energy-Balances

The RMA draws material, substance and energy balances as a basis for prioritisation and early recognition. We supply tailored waste, environmental and resource management concepts, from waste management solutions to ecological assessment of products, enterprises and regions.

Solid Wastes and Wastewater Management

Applying a material-focusing approach, the RMA supplies new, innovative solution concepts for corporate and regional waste and wastewater problems. Based on an analysis of the current state, we recognise weaknesses, and by means of scenarios optimisation, potentials are highlighted.

Sustainable Development of Cities and Regions

Resource management is the basis for a sustainable development of cities and regions. A reduction of the complex system city/region to the essential processes is undertaken. This way, alternative solutions can be shown and efficient measures can be derived.

Energy Efficiency

The RMA explores basics and strategies for sustainable employment of energy. Starting point for the development of the strategies are energy balances. We develop solutions both for energy savings and for alternative energy generation as e.g. by biomass, hydropower, wind energy and solar energy.

Sustainable Construction

The RMA develops strategies and solutions enabling wide transfer of sustainable measures in new constructions as well as in renovation. Besides energy optimisation cost efficiency, construction ecology and biology are essential factors. We investigate criteria to develop sustainable building materials.

Sustainable Nutrition

The RMA offers ecological, economical and qualitative assessment of food production and consumption. We promote the enhancement of the share of organic food cooked especially in canteens. Thereby we provide a practical contribution to health promotion and sustainability.
